Here are just two sketches that I did recently: I feel as if I've really kind of progressed in my drawing ability and hopefully this can be seen in my drawings! The first is Keira Knightley (source img) and the second is Emma Watson pre-haircut (source img). The scales are completely inaccurate, but I quite liked adapting the scale and borders and changing some things around to make it my own!

Had an absolutely wonderful day yesterday with friends, I'll post some more photos later... And now I'm gonna be spending some time with family today and trying to do some revision. Hope the rest of you are enjoying the sun and have a lovely week. Happy blogging!

  2. AH! you sketch so well... i have the problem that i cannot capture the essence of the figure i'm drawing and thus you cannot tell who it is ( D: !)
but you are AMAZING at it!
love and could TOTALLY tell from afar ;D

  7. ahh you're so sweet. I wouldn't say I'm an accomplished artist ahaha. it's really just practice. and from the looks of it, you're getting there!

I'm guessing that you're looking for a bit of feedback on your drawings, so I hope you don't mind if I critique them a bit. it should definitely help. my friend and I do this to each other's drawings from time to time to point out things that could be improved upon. (:

I really think you've gotten the hang of faces here. I can definitely recognize them from your sketches and that's really really good, since in drawing realistic portraits (especially of celebrities) the main thing is getting the likeness right, which can be difficult. I think now you might want to try experimenting with some different shading techniques. you can find tutorials on the internet (deviantART has hordes) because different people prefer different approaches. I tend to do crosshatching and then blending, but I've heard that shading in a tiny little circle pattern actually gives a more skin-like result. but shading really is the next step to achieving a higher degree of realism. I'd invest in some nice graphite pencils (like 8B, 6B, 4B, 2B, B, HB, H, 2H, etc) if you haven't already. they make a world of difference from just regular #2 writing pencils. as for blending, stumps are nice if you have them, but I've found that tissues wrapped around a finger work well also. shading's really hard and it definitely will take some time to work at it, but I'd recommend changing your reference images to greyscale to see the different shades. also, printing out large references and marking/measuring them for proportions makes a world of difference. don't get too reliant on gridding though! and I'd recommend trying to draw your hands from time to time to practice drawing from life.

and thanks for the luck for my exams! I think I did alright... they're about all over now though thankfully. now I have time to start painting for the first time in years(: good luck on your exams! and ahhhhh so excited to start watching season 5 of doctor who. I love matt smithh. david tennant's still my favorite but matt is just so gooood. ahaha favorite show ever!

ahh that was really long. sorry if it was a bit too much, but I really hope it's helpful! if you have any questions feel free to send them my way! (:
